Today is Sunday. I can't tell you how much I miss going to church. I try to make it as Sabbath-like as I can. I don't do any yoga or homework on Sunday. The staff is off so it is very quiet around here. I spent time online on the Church website and found an amazing talk by Elder Holland that he gave at a CES Fireside last Sunday. It is about an hour long but it is very powerful and would make a great Family Home Evening. It is right on the home page at www.lds.org.
So, how did you like the kite surfers? Tom said that Boracay is famous for it's kite surfing and people come from all over the world to participate.
Today I want to share what I have learned about the different oils that we are eating. Other than cold-pressed oils, like olive oil, the oil we eat (other than coconut oil) is made through intense processing. I am talking about canola, vegetable, safflower, corn, and soy oils. The source of the oil is mixed with a petroleum solvent to separate the oil from the source. Then the oil is boiled at about 400 degrees to burn off the solvent. The oil that is left does not in any way resemble food and is incredibly bad for us. It clogs the arteries and creates massive amounts of free radicals in our bodies. We should avoid it at all costs. But that is tough because it is in all our baked goods, processed foods, salad dressings, mayonnaise, bread, canned and some frozen foods. It is going to take a lot of diligence to get it out of our diets. Because of the way it was processed, it is difficult to tell when it goes rancid, because the smell and taste does not change like it does for olive oil. Most of what we buy is already rancid sitting on the grocery shelve. As bad as these oils are fresh, they are a hundred times worse when they are rancid. And don't even get me started about Crisco.
A couple of decades ago, the soy industry (which is heavily subsidized by the U.S. government) was looking for more customers and so they did a huge smear campaign on coconut oil and people (including doctors) believed it. It was not based on any studies, in fact, the studies showed that coconut oil is the healthiest oil you can eat. There are hundreds of published and peer-reviewed research papers on coconut oil that consistently show that this is what we should be eating. So if your doctor says not to eat it, tell him/her to stop listening to propaganda and start looking at actual research!
Coconut has a very long list of wonderful things it does for the body. It actually helps us lose weight. Wow! Eat fat and get thin! Who knew! But the reason I am using it as my only source of fat is because it is anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, anti-viral, and anti-paracidic. So every time I eat it, my body gets cleaned up of those nasty bugs. That leaves my immune system free to take care of more important things...like cancer. Check out this link...
