I have to admit that looking at me online probably isn't as pleasant an experience for them. I have not had a stitch of makeup on since I got here and my idea of a hair-do only requires a comb and a scrunchy. I also haven't worn deodorant or used toothpaste since I got here. It's a good thing Skype isn't smellavision! The dogs still like me so I don't think its that bad.
There is a reason for the madness. I am trying to stay away from all chemicals. I am trying to detox and all those chemicals we slather on our bodies get absorbed and it is no different than eating it. Since I have been here, if I wouldn't eat it, it doesn't go on my skin. I realize I can't keep this up forever but it will help as I go through this major detox phase.
I challenge you to do a little experiment. For one day, make a list of everything that comes in contact with your skin. Write down the ingredients that are in those products. Don't forget things like laundry detergent and softeners that are on your clothing, shampoo, lotion, makeup, hand sanitizer, water that is full of chemicals, nail polish, perfume, cleaning products, ink, grease, gasoline, etc. All of this soaks in and creates a mess that your body somehow has to deal with. Anyone out there brave enough to share their list with the rest of us?

if anyone wants to start using biodegradable and skin-friendly soap, look for Dr Bronner's. The peppermint is refreshing and if you like lavender, they have that too.
ReplyDeleteMozart, our son, went many months without using shampoo -- he said that the 1st 2 weeks his hair was gunky and after that, you couldn't tell that he had not shampooed. and it's true! when i saw him, his hair was shiny, soft, and odor-free. if that grosses you out and still want to use shampoo, look for Nature's Gate. and instead of conditioner, use vinegar. your hair will smell of it only when wet. vinegar removes the build-up that shampoos tend to do and it leaves your hair soft and shiny.
I was wondering about the product names. Thank you Karen. I'll have to try some of those. What type of vinegar should I use? white? apple cider?
