Today was a travel day. We said goodby to Siargao and headed back to Cebu. I will miss Siargao. It was so beautiful and peaceful. It is very much the tropical paradise I envisioned when I first thought about going to the Philippines.
I do have to admit that I was happy to go back to Cebu. I missed the modern conveniences. It wasn't that the conveniences weren't there in Siargao...it was just that they didn't work most of the time. My hotel room was in a new resort and in the bathroom was a new shower, sink and toilet. But the water in the sink just ran onto the concrete floor, the toilet leaked, and the shower was solar heated and only gave hot water in the late afternoon. Most of the toilets on the island were not hooked up to water. There was usually a large bucket of water that you scooped water out of and dumped in the toilet to flush it. Who knows where the water went from there! This was true even in the brand new airport terminal.
So, yes...Cebu is dirty and noisy and crowded, but the plumbing works. So now you know my priorities.
This afternoon I had an appointment with a gastroenterologist. I am having a colonoscopy at the hospital in the morning and so tonight I have started the "clean-out" prep. Not fun! Right now I really appreciate good plumbing!
